Our Story...so far!

Original Alternative Funk/Jazz Band SOUNDOCTRINE first appeared at The Northeastern Ohio Gospel Music Connection, January 12th 2002. Two weeks later they opened for Grammy Winner Bobby “Blue” Bland. The group went on to travel throughout Northern Ohio, Western P.A., Kentucky & Maryland and in to New York state.

SOUNDOCTRINE’s debut CD “PERSEVERANCE” released on their own NIAYANA RECORDINGS in May 2002 was awarded the 2003 Nu Soul ‘Album of the Year’ from Soul- Patrol. CAMPUS CRUSADE FOR CHRIST picked “YOYO” from the album as the Theme Song for their San Diego Christmas Conference 2002.

The funk unit’s follow up, “SD Live!!!” released in June 2003, along with their subsequent Border’s Blitz Tour was documented by noted Indie Filmmaker, Art Byrd and accepted as an entry which featured at the Hollywood Black Film Festival in Hollywood, CA in June 2004. The film was released as a DVD, "The Road to Perseverance."
In May of that same year, SOUNDOCTRINE was nominated for Best Jazz Artist by the American Gospel Music Awards held in Orlando Florida.

The band’s fourth album, entitled “ENDURANCE” was chosen the #3 Best Jazz Funk Album of 2006 by Soul Patrol, which earned them the distinction of performing at the Capital Jazz Fest Challenge. Legendary Smooth Jazz Artist, Bob Baldwin remixed and played piano on “Smallmouth Bass,” penned by SD Composer and former keyboardist, Jim Couchenour. The tune became their third to air nationally on The Weather Channel.

The band is finalizing their fifth project “Inspire” scheduled for release on 10/10/10. The band’s unique blend of fusion, intentionally geared to a Family Friendly Audience has been described as ‘George Duke meets Steely Dan on the way to Quincy Jones house while listening to David Benoit!’ SOUNDOCTRINE calls their music “Originalalternativefunkjazzfusion!” which continues to attract new fans across the world.
